Noun and its Types

Noun:

The name of people, places, animals or thing are called noun. For example Tree, sun, boy, bird etc.
Read the following sentence
Zarak is going to Lahore in his car.
In this sentence Zarak , Lahore and car are noun.
There are different types of nouns

Common Nouns:

Common nouns are names which we give in general to all person, places, animals or things. For example day, teacher, month, tree, flower etc.

Proper Nouns:

Proper nouns are special names given to specific persons, places animals or things. For example Sunday, March, Lahore, Ali etc.
You must remember that each proper noun is start with capital letter.
Let?s read the following sentence

  1. Peshawar is famous for its fish.

  2. We sacrifice goat, sheep and camels on Eid-ul-Azha.

In first sentence Peshawar is Name of specific city, so Peshawar is Proper noun and fish is general name use for all types of fishes, so fish is common nouns.
In second sentence cow, goat and camels are common nouns and Eid-Ul-Azha is proper noun.

Countable Nouns:

Countable nouns are those that can be counted. They have both singular and plural forms. For example car or cars, woman or women.

Uncountable Nouns:

Uncountable nouns are substances or concepts that we cannot count.

For example:

we can not count "Milk" . We can not count "Rice"

Abstract Noun:

An abstract noun refers to states, feelings, concepts, quantity etc that have no physical existence.

For example: wisdom, sadness, fear

Concrete Noun:

Concrete (also called material) noun is a noun that has physical existence.

For example: table, flower, chair

Look the following sentences:

  1. He was given an award for his courage.

  2. The door is lock.

  3. Where is your book.

  4. His teacher admired his creativity.

In above sentences courage and creativity are abstract noun and door and book are concrete noun.

Collective Noun:

Collective noun is name of a group or collection of same kind of persons, animals and things.

For example:

Army as know that army is made by many soldiers.

Fleet as we know a fleet is made up of many ships.

A bunch of bananas

Masculine and Feminine Noun:

Masculine noun are used for male and feminine nouns are use for Female.

For example:

king queen
brother sister
uncle aunt
mother father

Singular and Plural Noun:

Singular noun refers to only one person, place or thing and Plural noun are refers to more then one person, places, animals or things.

For example:

Singular Nouns Plural Nouns
apple apples
boy boys
book books
table tables
ball balls

Lets read the following sentence:

  1. He left his bag in the school.
  2. The doctor give me medicines.
  3. There are many birds on the tree.

In first sentence school and bag are the singular nouns.

In the second one doctor is singular nouns and medicines are plural noun.

in third sentence birds are plural and tree is singular.

Compound Noun:

Compound noun made up of two or more words.

For example: tooth + Paste (toothpaste), foot + ball (football) , black + board (blackboard)
